What we collect

Account information: If you create an account, we store your email address and display name.
Email subscriptions: If you subscribe to election reminders, we store your email address and state.
Ballot lookup addresses: When you look up your ballot, we send your address to determine your jurisdiction. We do not store your address. It is processed in real time and discarded.
Usage data: We may collect anonymous analytics data (pages visited, time on site) to improve the service.
Optional geolocation: If you grant browser location permission, we use your approximate position solely to detect your US state and pre-fill state selectors. We never store your coordinates or precise location. Only the derived two-letter state code is saved in your browser’s local storage. You can decline the browser prompt and select your state manually at any time.

We use the following services to operate the platform:

Supabase: Database and authentication
Vercel: Hosting and deployment
Anthropic: AI-assisted content generation for ballot measure explainers
OpenStreetMap Nominatim: Reverse geocoding to determine your state from browser location (only if you grant permission)

Access the personal data we hold about you
Request deletion of your account and associated data
Unsubscribe from election reminders at any time
Opt out of analytics tracking

Children's privacy

Ballot Explorer does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected such information, please contact us immediately.
